How to measure thickness?
In order for the probe to work properly, the air between the probe surface and the surface of the workpiece to be measured must be removed, which requires the use of a couplant. This liquid is called a couplant because the ultrasonic waves emitted from the probe enter the workpiece to be measured through the liquid, and the echo of the liquid returns to the probe through the liquid. Before measurement, a small amount of couplant should be applied to the surface of the workpiece to be measured. Usually, one drop is enough. After applying the couplant, press the probe tightly against the area to be measured. When the coupling status icon is stable, a value is displayed on the screen. If the instrument has been properly zeroed and the correct sound velocity value is set, the thickness value on the screen is the vertical thickness of the part of the workpiece in the area below the probe.
If the coupling status icon flickers, or the value on the screen is obviously wrong, the first thing to check is whether the coupling agent under the probe forms a thin film, and the second thing is to see if the probe is smoothly placed on the workpiece. When the probe is pressed on the surface of the workpiece to be measured, the instrument obtains seven readings per second, and the screen is continuously updated. When the probe is lifted off the surface of the workpiece, the measured value remains on the screen.
Probe zero calibration:
The importance of setting the zero point of the ZX-6 is the same as the importance of zeroing the mechanical measuring tool. If the zero point of the measuring tool is not correct, the measured data will have a certain difference from the actual value. When the host computer is correctly adjusted to zero, this fixed difference will be automatically calibrated and compensated after the measurement. Methods as below:
1. Turn on the host and connect the probe to check that the workpiece contact surface is clean;
2. Drop a drop of couplant on the metal disc of the calibration block;
3. Press the Dual-Multi key to confirm that the host is in PE mode;
4. Press the PRB-0 key again to confirm the display of n0, and perform zero calibration.
5. Remove the probe from the calibration metal plate.
